Government Affairs Update: AGC MA Advocating for investment in construction and to limit costly regulatory burdens
AGC MA remains at the forefront of legislative advocacy on behalf of the state’s commercial construction industry, actively tracking more than 150 bills before the Massachusetts Legislature. In the half of the year, we have provided formal testimony on 10 impactful pieces of legislation including:
- Opposition to H.460: We opposed H.460, which proposes additional safety training requirements that duplicate existing standards, impose unfunded mandates on employers, and risk exacerbating workforce shortages without demonstrable benefits to worker safety.
- Opposition to S.1358/H.2165: We voiced strong opposition to S.1358 and H.2165, which would mandate participation in registered apprenticeship programs for all trade contractors and subcontractors on public construction projects. This requirement could exclude a wide range of capable contractors and workers who contribute meaningfully to our industry but do not fit within a narrow training structure.
- Support for the BRIGHT Act (H.54): On Tuesday, June 3rd, a panel of AGC MA members will testify in support of the BRIGHT Act, a $2.5 billion capital investment to modernize and decarbonize public higher education infrastructure. This initiative aligns with our goals of economic stimulus, workforce development, and climate resilience.
As always, AGC MA stands ready to serve as a resource for policymakers and industry stakeholders navigating these complex issues.
