2024 marked the 100th year since the founding of AGC MA and one of our most successful years ever. Emerging from the pandemic, we have grown membership each year, increased attendance at our programs and events, and expanded our industry advancement initiatives.
Alone, any one of these achievements would be worth celebrating, but together it shows that our members are leaders in our industry and in our communities. 2025 will present many challenges, but led by the AGC MA Board of Directors, membership, and staff, we are well positioned to succeed in any environment.
In 2023 and 2024, we have engaged in strategic planning process to create a new framework for member value. Our Building Excellence Blueprint lays out the mission, vision, and areas of member value.
Our members build the Commonwealth and we BUILD our members.
BOOST
This year we have boosted our membership by growing the Association by 30 members to over 100 contractors. In 2025, we will be implementing a Construction Leadership Fee. This program will enhance the value of member participation by providing discounted access to AGC programs and events for high potential emerging leaders.
AGC MA has also launched the AGC Podcast Network which promotes the important work of AGC MA peer groups like the Sustainability Advisory Committee and the Building Women in Construction Committee (BWIC) which also launched a first-of-its-kind BuildHer mentorship program for women in the construction industry
UNITE
It is through member participation that we have brought the industry together. In 2024, we hosted over 60 programs and events with almost 3,000 attendees. The highlight was AGC’s Centennial Gala in May. Over 400 industry professionals attended the event featuring a retrospective of AGC’s impact on the industry.
Also, for the second consecutive year, AGC MA marshalled support across the industry for Construction Inclusion Week. This effort culminated in the Diversity Summit which exhibited success in diverse business participation across all project stakeholders from owners to contractors.
INSPIRE
Our members are consistently recognized as some of the most sophisticated builders in the industry. They share these industry best practices and innovations to foster continuous improvement. Last year, our first ever What’s Next Innovation Conference featured presentations from organizations leading the industry in sustainability, AI adoption, wellness, and more.
In addition, AGC MA was recognized with a National Innovation Award for developing the CARE Construction Safety Program featuring a first-of-its-kind safety orientation that is shared among participating companies. In 2024, almost 15,000 orientations have been delivered across 250 projects with over $200,000 in production put back into the industry from savings on repeat orientations.
LEAD
AGC MA members lead the industry and expect strong representation from their Association. This year we worked with policymakers to provide input on legislation and regulations concerning wage theft, public construction reform, project labor agreements, housing policies, worker wellness, and more. We are continuing to provide high quality representation on the issues that matter to our membership and making sure that the CM community always has a seat at the table.
AGC MA played a pivotal role on the Public Construction Projects Advisory Council formed by an Executive Order from Governor Healey to identify ways to improve diverse business participation in public construction. AGC MA membership played a key role throughout by presenting the realities of public construction procurement and driving the agenda towards actual solutions which would share responsibility for compliance with more stakeholders.
Finally, following years of conversation about substance use disorders, AGC MA was approved as a Community Naloxone Provider by the MA Department of Public Health. Our staff assembled Overdose Prevention Kits and distributed more than 1000 doses of Narcan to AGC MA Members.
DEVELOP
One of AGC’s greatest responsibilities is to ensure that our members maintain their competitive edge on talent. We provide access to the nationally recognized AGC Edge virtual training programs as well as developing local training like the Young Contractors Professional Institute and Emerging Leaders Development Series. We continue to refine and improve these programs as well as developing other amazing educational programs.
In addition, AGC MA is working hard to develop the next generation of industry talent in both labor and management. This year AGC MA was awarded a $125,000 grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center to expand our Workforce Development initiatives including the Building Advancement Externship, Adopt-A-School, Future Builders, and Power Skills Workshop.
Thank you for being a part of the AGC MA Community. I invite you all to sign up for a program or event, purchase a sponsorship, join a committee, or if you aren’t a member to join our Association. For the past 100 years, we have been building excellence and we will continue to do it for the next 100 years.
